Bill Potter
Vice President, Communications & Engagement

Bill joined First Tee – Greater Richmond in February 2021 and is currently the organization’s Vice President of Communications & Engagement, overseeing all external and internal communications efforts, public relations, marketing, branding and social media.

Bill helped spearhead media attention around the reopening of Belmont in May 2021, generating over $1 million in estimated media value. The public relations campaign was recognized as one of PR Daily’s Media Relations Campaign Finalists for its 2022 Social and Digital Media Awards.

Prior to joining First Tee – Greater Richmond, Bill spent 15 years in college athletics, with stints at the Colonial Athletic Association, The American Athletic Conference, Horizon League and IUPUI.

In those positions, Bill had his hands in a variety of roles, including sport-specific media relations, marketing, social media, broadcast rights and production, tournament operations, strategic planning, staff management and more. Bill was involved in nine NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Fours from 2010-18, serving as Local Media Coordinator for the 2015 Final Four in Indianapolis and on the NCAA’s media operations team for the 2016 edition. Bill was also the Local Media Coordinator for the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Midwest Regionals in Indianapolis.

A 2005 graduate of Boston College, Bill moved to Richmond in 2018 with his wife, Kristin. They have added Will (2019) and Jackson (2020) to their family since, in addition to their dog Harry (yes, really). When he has time for golf, Bill is willing to play just about anywhere, though Pinehurst No. 2, No. 4, and Belmont will always be among his favorites. If he’s off the course, Bill is rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts.
