The History of Belmont Golf Course
Belmont Golf Course's history, location, and potential make it a truly unique and valuable property. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast and renovated by Donald Ross, host to the only major golf championship held in Virginia, and site of tournament victories by golf immortals Ben Hogan and Sam Snead, Belmont's placement in the history of American Golf and the Golden Age of golf architecture is secure. The course is also a centerpiece of Richmond's resurgent Lakeside neighborhood, adjacent to one of the Richmond Area's greatest assets in Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, and located near the geographic population centers of the Richmond MSA. The land itself, while small for and 18-hole golf course, provides significant opportunity for a thoughtful and innovative renovation.
