Why Golf?

Experiences are our greatest teacher. First Tee believes in developing the ones that are just as fun as they are meaningful, where kids feel excited to grow, safe to fail, and better equipped for whatever comes their way next. Through our personal growth and junior golf programs, we see kids’ build self confidence, inspiring more active participation in leadership opportunities and events, community involvement, and college scholarships.

Community Program

First Tee – Greater Richmond helps young people pursue goals, grow through challenge, collaborate with others, build positive self-identity, and use good judgment through the game of golf. Our adaptable First Tee Community Program is specifically designed for youth-serving organizations, like the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club, to give kids and teens the chance to develop character and learn about golf through engaging and age-appropriate games, field trips, and clinics. Our organization partners with mission-aligned community groups such as schools, youth centers, and other nonprofits to expand and deepen our reach and impact. These partnerships provide access to First Tee’s curriculum and trained coaches, ensuring youth from diverse backgrounds can benefit from the lessons and values. Programs are designed to teach leadership, resilience, and accountability while also learning putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing mechanics. By collaborating with community partners, First Tee – Greater Richmond is able to deliver more opportunities through golf, regardless of financial, social, or transportation barriers.
