First Tee Youth Programs FAQs
If my participant is new to First Tee and golf, where should they start?
We offer programs from ages 5-18. New participants should join the class with their age range. Our coaches make all games and lessons adaptable for all skill levels!
If my participant is a golfer but new to First Tee, where should they start?
Sign up for the appropriate age level class and the coaches will adjust lesson plans to the group!
If participants are seeking a supplemental, advanced golf skills program, First Tee – Greater Richmond offers Player Development Academy courses. In order to join the Player Development Academy, participants MUST be currently enrolled or have been enrolled in a First Tee Program in the last calendar year. We encourage, but do not require, participants to be enrolled in both the Player Development Academy and First Tee Programs simultaneously.
How do I register and pay for programs?
Click the “Register My Child” button at the top of the page.

How do I apply for financial aid?
This is part of the program registration process. Once you’ve created an account and selected a program/course to add to your cart, a series of questions will follow and financial aid will be one of them. Once the financial aid application and program registration is submitted, the financial aid application will be reviewed. Within 1-3 business days, you will receive a confirmation email with the status of your financial aid application. Once financial aid status has been approved, parents have 24 hours to complete the remaining program/class registration online and complete the cart check out process.
Where do we meet for class?
In the program room (Tattersall), the community room (Elson Redmond), or the Chipping Green (Belmont) unless otherwise specified.
How do we know if youth programs are canceled for weather?
We will never cancel youth programs due to rain however, if there is threatening weather in the area you will receive an email with details a minimum of 90 minutes prior to the start of class.
What should my participant wear to class?
Golf attire is preferred but not required. Please make sure your participant is wearing athletic footwear and comfortable clothing.
Does my participant need golf clubs?
If your participant has their own clubs, we encourage them to bring them to class and camps. For those who do not have clubs, we will provide any necessary equipment.
If my participant cannot attend a program, can they attend a different class during the week as a make-up?
No, participants are only allowed to attend the class in which they are registered for due to programs being at full capacity with wait lists.
As a parent or guardian, what should I expect or do during programs?
Parents are welcome to stay and observe, but it is not a requirement. We ask that parents who are observing do not enter the class room and stick to a “cart path only” rule unless there is an emergency.
Are parents or guardians allowed to participate in programs?
While we welcome you to stay and observe our programs, we ask that parents and guardians refrain from participating in the class. Should you be interested in volunteering, please visit our website, www.thefirstteerva.org, and complete a volunteer interest form.
