Scott Whirley
Director of Turf Equipment

Scott has been a critical part of First Tee – Greater Richmond’s team for 23 years. As our Director of Turf Equipment, he is responsible for the comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all turf equipment at The Tattersall Youth Development Center and The Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range.

In addition to maintaining all equipment, Scott trains the maintenance staff on the safe operation of equipment, proper cleaning, and keeps detailed records for part inventory, costs of repairs, and future equipment and capital needs. 

Scott entered the golf industry at Birkdale Golf Course, where he worked on both the greens and grounds crew before moving up to Foreman and then Turf Equipment Manager, helping with the reconstruction of the course’s tees.

Scott’s career has included stints at the Country Club of Virginia, where he worked on both the Tuckahoe Creek and River courses, and with Golfmasters, where he helped build The Highlands Golf Club.

Scott has served in a variety of leadership roles in the golf industry, including as the Vice President of the Old Dominion Turf Equipment Managers Association of Virginia.

When he isn’t on the course, Scott is sailing, fishing and traveling with his wife, Jenny. Married for 24 years, the couple has one son, Tyler.
